Welcome to Wallflower Diaries!
My name is Sarah, I’m a 20 something-year-old coastal girl from Australia with an open mind & a heart full of wanderlust. Introverted social butterfly with uncontrollable itchy feet is me in a nutshell.
I grew up like most, believing I would finish high school, get a university degree, find a decent job, buy a house, get married, have children and live my happily ever after. After graduating university I discovered societies idea of ‘success’ would never provide me with a truly fulfilling life, I knew there had to be more to life than living to pay bills. Luckily my investigative mind let me astray and introduced me to the philosophy of vagabonding, a freedom lifestyle with no fixed address. Living a nomadic lifestyle has taught me many valuable life skills; learning to be comfortable being uncomfortable, problem solving, compassion, appreciation, intuition, perspective to the bigger picture and to put myself out there. Because that’s when the magic happens!
Setting sail from Australia solo with nothing other than a 65L backpack, a big dream and a diminishing bank account I found myself in the most interesting situations. Volunteering on remote farms and schools in Asia, WOOFing in New Zealand, CouchSurfing with complete strangers in Asia, NZ & USA, working on private Superyachts in Europe and even finding life passions in travel writing, photography and videography on my journey.
Highlights from the past few years include free diving with whale sharks in the Philippines, sailing on a 43ft single hull yacht from Panama to Columbia via the San Blas Islands, sky diving in New Zealand, hiking up Indian Nose mountain at 4am to catch the sunrise over Guatemala’s Lake Atitlan, adventuring with friends on scooters around Bali, snowboarding in Canada, yoga teacher training in Rishikesh India, partying like a rockstar in Vegas & Ibiza, living on a Superyacht cruising Spain’s Balearic Islands, paragliding in Byron Bay, surfing with dolphins and turtles, island hopping in Cambodia, staying under the same roof as a young Vietnamese women giving birth in the hills of SaPa Vietnam, and best of all meeting all the incredible humans I’ve encountered along the way.
My vision is to live life on my own terms; to gradually explore every inch of the world, to work a job I’m passionate about, to spend quality time with the people I love, fill my days with adventure and give back to a world thats given me so much.
I truly believe travel is the best education, the best way to find yourself, true happiness and live a fulfilling life. Ultimately I’ve learnt the world’s bursting with beauty and we’re all here for a short time so let’s not waste it!
As a curious, independent, young female I want to utilize my time and leave a positively unique imprint on this earth. I want to show other dreamers that it’s ok to think differently, to be a round peg trying to fit into a square hole and to leave everything you know in pursuit of the extraordinary life you deserve. You can do anything you set your mind to! Don’t worry about the logistics, just start.
With 40 marvelous countries under my travel belt I’m only just getting started. I’ve created this blog to share my journey, travel tips, globetrotting wisdom and experiences from around the world, and in the hope of inspiring others to do the same.
